Over the last few weeks I’ve started an actual play podcast with my daughters, whose handles on the internet are Dazzle and Crow. We’ve started with the game No Thank You, Evil!. In this first game Dazzle is playing Elise the super-smart princess who does magic. Crow is playing Simone, the super-sneaky wizard who flies through the sky. The mildly evil Frau Denscheude has lost her dog, the Schadenhunde. Although she has caused Simone and Elise no small amount of trouble in the past, they agree to help her out of the kindness of their hearts. Mayhem ensues.
About Dazzle and Crow
My daughters are young. Because of this the podcast is focused on telling stories that will be relatable for younger gamers, or people who are interested in running games for younger players. We really enjoy playing games together, and I’m hoping that sharing our games will help others get into the hobby. It’s a great way to play creatively together. Overall, kids are some of my favorite players. They are naturally into imaginative play.
Starting this project was a big push. I’ve never recorded, edited or produced a podcast before. Altogether, I’ve learned a lot, and I’m getting the hang of it. Seeing the audio visualized and being able to manipulate it is really fun. On the other hand, figuring out how to get the podcast posted to iTunes, Google Play, TuneIn, Stitcher and Himalaya. Along with the podcast I’m also posting up information about how we get it done.
That said, I’m hopeful to get back to posting here as well. Both projects are important to me. It’s been worth it to devote my free time to getting the podcast up and running. Similarly, the ideas and games I explore on this blog are important to me too.
